high-Key low-key

artist statement
My high-key portrait represents how the world sees me. I am covered with lace and my identity is obstructed from the viewer because ultimately I have control over what other people can see and know about me, and I can give as much or as little information about myself as I choose. Since I cannot view myself from the perspective of others, I have no way of truly knowing how I am seen by the world, so it made sense to me to pursue this concept for my high-key portrait.

My goal with this photo was to create a feeling that is relatively neutral or tired to contrast with the bright colors all around me, reflecting how I mostly view myself as being emotionally exhausted, and despite preferring to wear dark and neutral colors, I love to look at bright neon colors and use them in my art, which is contradictive to my personality. I chose to do how I see myself as my low-key photo because the dark background better suits the colors and overall feeling I wanted to achieve.
